The Rouge Fairways Residents' Association is a community based non-profit rate payers organization registered with the Town of Markham. Currently we operate in the area south side of 14th Ave. and Markham Rd., between the hydro corridor and the Rouge River.
The Executives and Directors are made up of volunteer members of our community who are elected yearly by the Association members at our Annual General Meeting. The Association was formed in 1996 out of the need to have community representation in order to petition the Town of Markham to review the property tax assessment at that time. With persistence, and speaking as one voice for the community, the Association was able to have the property taxes reviewed and lowered to an ideal rate fitting for our members.
The Association has since evolved from a community advocate to working closely with Boxwood Public School and Sir Richard W. Scott Catholic School in establishing awards at both local schools to recognize students best exemplifying citizenship. The Association promotes and encourages the entire community to take part in the various fund raising events held throughout the year. Our intention is to donate funds to each school to purchase playground equipment or use for other worthy causes. The Association has taken part in the Legacy 5k Walk/Run, to help raise funds for the Markham Stouffville Hospital, as well, we work in conjunction with the Ward 7 Councillor to address any issues involving our community. We take part in various Public Meetings at the Town of Markham Council Chambers.
The Executive and Directors would not be complete without working with the York Regional Police in establishing our Neighborhood Watch Program. Finally, we are kept updated by other community organizations and Associations on relevant information which we forward to our members.
copy of the association constitution is available here.
